Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 July 2026
This policy is short because the honest answer is short: we hold only your name and email, and your resume data stays on your device. Here is exactly what happens to every piece of information.
1. Your resume data
Everything you type into the builder, your name, contact details, work history, photo, and settings, is stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. It is not transmitted to, or stored on, our servers. We cannot read it, and we could not hand it to anyone else even if asked, because we never receive it.
2. Imported files
When you import an old resume (PDF or DOCX), the file is read and parsed entirely by code running in your browser. The file is never uploaded anywhere.
3. Spell check and ATS check
The spell checker downloads its dictionaries from our server once, then runs entirely on your device, the words you type are never sent to us. The ATS keyword check compares your resume and a pasted job description locally, in your browser.
4. Your account
When you sign up we collect two things: your name and your email address. These are stored on our database (hosted by Vercel) so we can group your resumes under one dashboard and contact you about the service, for example a product update or, in future, changes to these policies. We never ask for a password or a payment card during the beta.
This is the only personal information we hold on our servers. Your resume itself, the roles, dates, contact details and everything else you type into the builder, stays in your browser as described above and is never part of this.
You can ask us to delete your name and email at any time through the contact page, and we will remove them.
5. When you share a success story
If you choose to tell us about an interview or an offer you landed, we store what you submit (the company, the role, the outcome, any note, and an optional email) so we can thank you and, only if you tick the matching consent boxes, feature it. We will never publish your name unless you allow it, and never name the employer unless you allow that separately. You can withdraw a story by contacting us.
6. What we can see
Standard web server logs (pages requested, rough timing) when you load the site, like every website on the internet. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.
7. Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage to save your resume, your settings and your language choice on your device. We don't use tracking cookies.
8. Deleting your data
Because everything lives in your browser, deletion is in your hands: the Clear button in the builder removes your resume, and clearing site data for theresumelab.co in your browser removes everything, instantly and completely.
9. Contact
